India’s bowling has been their weakness,in recent times, with an excessive reliance on Zaheer Khan. Players like Ishant Sharma, Sreesanth and Munaf Patel have not lived up to the promise of their performances, early in their career. Harbhajan Singh, another potential match winner, has not been consistently among the wickets.

Skipper Strauss described what transpired as being “as close to the perfect bowling performance as we’ve had in the last two years”.
Monday Sports Round Up For July 25, 2011: Ishant Gives India A Sniff Before Prior Helps England Set Huge Target At Lords
It was a roller-coaster ride at Lords on the fourth day of the first test match between England and India. India dominated the pre-lunch session sending back five England batsmen for 78, giving India a sniff of victory. Ishant Sharma took three of the five wickets that fell, in a brilliant spell of incisive fast bowling, and another wicket to the gangling bowler after lunch reduced England to 108/6 and looking down the barrel.
That was when Prior and Broad decided to take things in hand and that’s what they did, putting on 162 in 166 balls to enable his skipper to declare the innings closed, leaving India to get a target of 458 to win the match. Gambhir’s elbow injury in the field meant that Dravid opened the innings with Mukund. But england got the early breakthrough they wanted when Mukund was bowled by Broad in his first over, the 8th of the innings, to leave India at 19/1. In walked Laxman and stitched a partnership with Dravid to take India to a healthy 80/1 at close.

India struggled to avoid the follow on, on the third day of the first test against England, at Lords, on Saturday, as some brilliant swing bowling from Stuart Broad saw the visitors collapse from the relative safety of 158/2 to 286 all out. And had Dravid not been dropped off Broad’s bowling, India would have been in deep trouble. England played out five overs to be 13 runs ahead at the end of the day. India can expect a post-tea declaration and 400 plus runs to chase in the fourth innings. If rain stays away, this match promises of an enthralling contest over the last two days, as India fight to stave off defeat.
Saturday Sports Round Up For July 23, 2011: Pietersen’s Double-Ton Pushes India On Back Foot At Lords
Pietersen scored an uncharacteristically painstaking double hundred, on the second day of the Lords test, allowing Strauss to declare the innings at 474/8, and forcing India to bat out a nervy half hour. India finished the day on 17/0, and are looking at a long haul to safeguard themselves against defeat on wicket that continues to aid swing. Pietersen shepherded his team to a score that looks daunting given the nature of the wicket, on which the likes of Anderson and Broad should enjoy bowling.
